Yep and it looks like it's starting again in Spain alas. The 2nd wave is almost certainly here.....

I have to say we wouldn't dream of venturing into Guardamar at a weekend under the present circumstances! However we did go there today (Wenesday) for a little exerise and a treat as we  have done for some years, and what a difference a couple of days makes!

We parked with no trouble on the road just above the swimming pool and strolled through Parque Riena Sofia and across to the Terraza Sotavento for a coffee and a cake. Some masks were in evidence, but social distancing at 50 metres would have been easy! In the cafe, there were just five people, including us two. Incidentally, we were greeted by a young waiter who turned out to be English. While talking to him, I commented that in the eleven years we had been visiting the place we had never come across an English waiter. and he said that as far as he could could find out he was the first they had ever employed as 'Spanish don't employ foreigners'.

We then walked down through Parque Alfonso XIII to Calle Dunas and Playa Vivero, then back along by the little beach-side cottages. Social distancing would have been easy at 100 metres at least!  Rest.Playa Jaimie had three tables occupied, although Valenti did seem to be a little busier, this was 12.45 pm. The beach here was quite busy but plenty of space between families and a lifeguard sitting on a ladder keeping an eye on things.

Then back up the hill to Jijonca ice cream shop ( I did say a treat with a LITTLE exercise!) where there were four tables occupied.

All in all. I would say visit Guardamar mid-week and not weekends for an enjoyable time. but we will not, and never have, visit at any time from the end of July to the beginning of September as this is when the holiday home owners from Madrid descend in their hundreds, which makes it unbearable for us.
