Hi, I’m Stuart. I have been trying to move to Almoradí for about a year now and finding it difficult to get movement on my self employed work permit. They refused my first application but my solicitor had made errors on my paperwork. That was last October. New application in and now 66 working days and nothing. Tried Uk consulate but the say waiting for Alicante immigration to decide. First time they have said where my paperwork went. I’m now trying web enquiries to immigration but the site is very AI loaded and goes in circles. I’m waiting to see if a human steps in. Any advice anyone. I’m going to Almoradi for March and if I have too I’ll go to immigration direct. This is really holding up my life as I’m in a long term limbo . reg

You haven't mentioned what profession you wish to follow therefore it is difficult for Forum members to provide any information  on work prospects in the area. However, without putting a dampner on your move, from what I can read from others it's not all a bed of roses, long hours and perhaps working a 7 day week.

If you applied for a self employed visa in the UK would you not be best to follow up progress at the Consulate where your application was submitted or have the solicitor who assisted you chase it up for you?

Thanks, it’s a little complicated as I have work as I’ve brought a franchise. I have badgered the London consulate and they shrugged there shoulders, I went there this week and they wouldn’t even let me in but they had before. They just say it’s in Alicantes hands. Wouldn’t even email them for me. I’m trying the AI for Alicante immigration now they have finally told me where they sent my business plan and my documents. Maybe I will have news this week or I will  book an appointment there in March . Very frustrating.

To see a Consulate official in any of the Spanish missions you need to make an appointment and that's probably the reason why the London Consulate wouldn't admit you. The following link will provide you with information and how to make an appointment online:

Hi Stuart,

As you reference "solicitor" in your first post, I'm assuming that you used a UK solicitor to submit your original visa application?  Such visas are dealt with by the immigration office in Alicante for this area (rather than the Policia National in Almoradí, Orihuela, Elche, etc.), so you will need go to Alicante.  However, you can't do that without a "cita previa" (prior appointment) and they have been very difficult to obtain for well over a year.  You may find that your best option is to seek the assistance of an immigration specialist in Spain, such as Upsticks: https://upsticks.es/ or see whether a local gestor can get you an appointment at Alicante - many of us have used Uma Sanz of Get Legal In Spain https://www.getlegalinspain.com/

Good luck!

Kind regards,

Kim
