Looking for recommendations for solicitor/support re residency and taxes - Page 2

Hi Chris

Having read the EU Directive the wording is very clear about the rights of spouse and family.  Alan said in his original post that the the website Your Europe Advice did not give him correct advice.  I would be more inclined to trust the wording of the directive than the contracted out website!

Happy New Year!  After our discussion earlier this week and some further research, to be on the safe side I’m going to apply for residency...EU Directive non-withstanding and knowing how these things can be ‘interpreted’ I don’t want to risk not being able to get to my Spanish house!

My understanding is that I can still apply this year before the end of the transition period? I already have NIE and a Spanish bank account and £38k in investments but could increase this if I needed to show more.  I think I need medical insurance for a year?  

Can you recommend someone, maybe a solicitor, who could help me with the application?

Hi Izzy, and a happy new year to you. You can certainly apply for residency under existing rules until the end of the Brexit transition period, and appointments at Alicante national police station are easy to get. Although the online appointments system only offers appointments at Alicante, it would be worth asking at the police station in Alcoy if you could apply there.

Unfortunately you will need private health insurance.

I still don't know what Alicante police station require in the way of proof of finances. I doubt that a solicitor would have the specialist knowledge to advise exactly what is required, and that you'd be better with a gestor who has seen other people through the application process recently. I suggest posting a new topic asking if anyone can recommend a gestor.
