Yes we use it in restraunts and shopping contactless., there is a charge to get money out but it is so much cheaper than having a bank account. The charges at ATM varies so shop around, they will tell you the fee 😊

I also use Wise, for almost everything.
Just about the only time I use cash is when I'm in a busy bar when I don't like paying by card coz it's too easy to lose track of what the final bill will be! In this way, I hardly ever take over €200 per month from ATMs, which helps me to leave tips as appropriate.
There are at least two chains of ATMs which offer free withdrawals (ie they don't charge even if Wise do) - Cashzone and Euronet. Don't even think of using an ATM belonging to one of the big Spanish banks! Santander in particular charge an arm and a leg!

We did go into the bank fairly often when we had just bought the villa and needed to get things organised. It is very easy to make an appointment on your app. It is best to make an appointment or you will have to wait in line. We had a nominated person, Isabella She spoke good English and was really helpful.
