Hi Everyone,

I'm looking at moving to Benigembla by the end of this year and starting a fresh, with that in mind, I'm looking at wanting to open a Spanish bank account and not continue to use my English account any longer. Can anyone guide/advise me on the best banks to use etc and what would be required to open an account?

Thanks in advance,

Stone

Hi, we opened an account with Banco Sabbadel. The contact we used is rita poncer in Denia. Her email address is [email protected] and she speaks perfect English. She should be able to help.

I'm with BBVA as Sabadell has fees and conditions attached to their account.  My other half is with Sabadell though and now has an Expansion account since he got his Residencia, but there are still conditions.  BBVA have no fees and no minimum monthly pay-in amount.  Other consideration with a bank account is where your branch is in relation to where you live.  My branch is in our local town so nice and handy if I have to pop in for anything although I do most things online.

Yes Indeed, Sabadell charges for any cards you may need. Therefore we are changing banks when we come in Alcoy where we are moving within 2-3 months time. We have done a few research, and it needs to be pointed out as €40-€70 per year for one card can become costly when you may need 2!?!..

Good luck with your move!

Hi Serge and Julie, if you get Residencia and change to an Expansion account with Sabadell, there is no charge for credit cards but they do have other conditions attached such as a minimum monthly amount paid in and a number of card transactions etc, but I do think BBVA is right for me and Sabadell for my other half.  The drawback with my account is fewer ATMs but I always carry enough cash and have my debit card if necessary.  Good luck with the move and the people on this forum will help with almost any query!

As others have said look at the conditions for the banks as charges can be high and it can vary from branch to branch.

I've also found if you are with a bank in eg the High Street, you can't often deal with other branches to get the answers you need or pay in money.

That's been my experience over the years

I am with Bankia and have no charges because my UK State Pension is paid in every month.   If you don’t have a regular amount being paid into your account then I believe that most accounts in Spain incur charges.

It may help with some of the queries that you will have regarding residencia, padron, health cover, and many others, if you have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain site.

Just remember that no matter what the countrywide laws are each Province and/or town may have its own ‘tweeks’ to them.

Good luck.
