I returned to Spain October last year and didn't manage to complete the paperwork for residency before 31 Dec 2020. So I assume I have to leave within 90 /180 days. However, a friend in England has just told me if I was here before end of last year I have until 30 June 2021 to apply for the EU settlement scheme.

I've just seen this on gov/uk but don't know if that's only for living in UK, does it apply in  EU?

Thanks for that. You've given me some ideas because I had a Spanish bank a/c & rental agreement back in 2015-2016 but not now. Also no health ins.

You need to prove that you were living in Spain immediately prior to Brexit end date. If you have a bank account showing payments to your landlord or estate agents that should suffice for the banking side. You will need to supply a Padron to cover the time up until cut off date of 31st December 2020.

If you can't produce bank statements or Padron then you will need to apply through the Spanish embassy for residency under the new requirements.
