I found this interesting. Lots of people on here say the Spanish are just trying to punish the British but this lady was in the UK and deported. Thousands of illegal immigrants annually, getting put in minimum of 3 star hotels and it's the legal Spanish who is made to leave. Seems a bit unfair.

The UK has acted despicable in many similar cases and last year lost a case in the High Court in for attempting to deny full settled status to people who had not applied for it after their 5 years of temporary residence which was contrary not only to the letter of the WA but also the spirit.

Shame on them.

The UK Home Office has a reputation for incompetency and this is a prime example, it is completely unforgivable

However, this about the Spanish ‘ trying to punish the British’  is a nonsense. The Spanish authorities must abide by EU regulations, applicable across the Continent to every country which is a member. Prior to Brexit, many blind eyes were turned to illegal residents, non registered trades etc, however, all of this is now tightened up and I understand that  many who have been here ‘ below the radar’ may be finding the situationmore complex.

Stephanie,

I don't see how the Home Office been incompetent in this case. From reading the story in Martyn's link they were not involved. The lady made the mistake of leaving the country which her temporary document did not allow, hence Border Force refused her entry. I do agree it has nothing to do with victimising Spanish visitors.

The only odd thing to me is why she was stopped at the airport, possibly some note on her passport.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Aitch re reading the article referring to this imbroglio in the online version of the paper to which we subscribe, it strikes me as wriggling on the part of authorities, given the possession of a document confirming her application and, as far as I understand it, confirming also that she has a right to work. She is married, presumably to a UK citizen, and living with her in-laws. Her MP is asking HO for explanations.

Whilst technically you may be correct, who am I to argue, I stand by my opinion of the situation.

Hi Stephanie,

your right that the document she has gives her the right to work and to stay in the UK, but apparently it did not permit travel in and out of the country whilst her case was being reviewed. This is why Border Force took the steps they did. Personaly I don't see why the HO is being slated given the rules were clear. However that's just my view.

I still wonder why she was stopped though, given there are 2 million plus Spanish vistors a year, the vast majority who get through without issue, there must have been something that stood out.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Yes, the stopping is a puzzle and you have a point. However I still think this is an  over reaction given all the surrounding circumstances and, although officially not an acceptable excuse, it is quite possible that given the paperwork she has, it was not clear to her that travel was not permissible.
