To the best of my knowledge, Spain does not recognise dual citizenship. The procedure for obtaining Spanish citizenship isn’t easy; requires 10 years’ residency plus proficiency in the language, history and so forth. I do know people going through it currently and it seems to be fairly complex.

I agree 100% with Stephanie, but I've also read reports of people taking out citizenship not having their British passports taken off them.
