Thank you

I am almost 75 but by no means old.

I am a EIRE passport holder but currently living in Australia and about to sell my home and then move to Benidorm

I have many questions but will limit myself initially to just 3

Can I just arrive on my Eire passport and stay permanently?

Currently I pay very little if at all for medication and doctors can this continue?

Is it possible to rent a room with someone unt I establish myself and buy a property?

Thank you so much

Terry

Hi Terry,

Yes you can.move to Benidorm to live but if you want to stay longer than 90 days you will need to register your presence with the national Police by signing on the foreigners register.

You will need to prove you have a regular income of around €600 per month and have full healthcare which can be private healthcare or through the S1 healthcare scheme which you should be able to apply for from the Irish healthcare system.

If you have private healthcare then you would pay full cost for medication whereas if you had the S1 healthcare cover then meds would be at 10% of cost or possibly free.

You could apply for the Convenio Especial healthcare after living here legally for a full year which would cost around €160 per month. You would get full healthcare but pay full cost for medication.

As for accommodation, you would need to possibly go through accommodation sites.

Please ask if you need to know more.

Thank you for the reply

As I was living in England and now Australia before deciding to settle in Spain how can I go about getting the S1 healthcare scheme that you mentioned

Thanks Terry

Hi Terry

If you had a UK passport you would apply to the DWP for an S1.

Google suggests that in Ireland you apply to HSE.

But I might be wrong!

Cheers

I have both passports in actual fact so I am confused, currently living in Australia on a Australian passport and not sure which to use for the best. I just thought Irish passport would be easier as still in Eu

Hi Steve

Thank you for the response, I currently live in Australia and have a Australian passport but I lived most my life in England and also have a UK passport, as my family were Irish I also have a Eire passport and confused as what one is best to use. I pay zero in UK and Australia for health and medication and would naturally like that to continue as I will be living on my pension once I buy a place to live. If I use Eire passport how easy is it to get the item you mentioned as I never lived fully in Ireland but only intermittently?

Thanks Terry

Don’t use the Australian …you’ll need a visa for sure and you’ll pay your meds as there’s no reciprocal health care arrangement.
Easiest way in is with your Irish passport . I’d make enquiries with the Irish gov re what health care cover you might get first.

Thank you so much for that

I don’t suppose you would have any idea who I need to contact in Ireland please

You need more than just a UK passport to qualify for an S1.

To get one from Eire you need to be either living there and enrolled in their NHS or be in receipt of a state pension.

Alternatively being in receipt of a UK state pension will entitle you but in either case you would need to become fully Spanish resident to benefit from it. Mixing UK S1 with an Eire passport could raise questions when attempting to gain residency but with UK (or OZ) passport you will have to go down the NLV route with all it's financial requirements.
