Hi all, my husband and I have just also been through the NLV visa application process and Steve’s post was very useful to us.  We had our consul appointment in Edinburgh on 25 June and we’re told to expect a response in 4-6 weeks. All documents presented were satisfactory, we were told. ...

... All up cost us around £4500!  €1050 visa fee, €2900 health insurance, and about another £800 in translations, apostile, police and medical certs for the two of us, so not a cheap exercise. One thing I would point out if husband and wife applying, in Edinburgh anyway, you do need 2 appointments and they will NOT see you together. We had all our paperwork combined so it was a bit of a nightmare trying to separate it sat on the step outside the consul on a cool Scottish day in Edinburgh. Unlike Steve’s experience at Manchester, they were rude, rushed us, couldn’t even sit down to exchange paperwork. They check your original docs, give them back and keep your copies, but in the rushed complete chaos we encountered, we realised on return home, they had kept one of our legalised (apostiled) documents! So just a warning to others using Edinburgh Consul to ensure your paperwork is separate, and VERY organised as you will not have time to correct or find missing paperwork.  Also should you need to photocopy anything last minute, as we did our health insurance certificate, having only received it that morning, there is a Ryman’s close by, about 15 minutes walk. Hope this helps any future Edinburgh applicants.  We also didn’t use an agent, I couldn’t find anyone to do it for the 2 of us for less than £1600. This would have taken our final cost to around £6000.  I’ll let you all know in due course whether we get our visas.  One other point to note, translations must be SWORN not certified. There is a difference. And you can apply for your apostile yourself on the gov.co.Uk website at £30 per document., and is a simple process. If you use a notary/agent, it’s around £54 per document. Good luck to you anyone else that wants to give it a go.

Hello,

Thank you, thats  great, detailed  & important information & will be most helpful for future applicants from your area... Wishing you luck with your application

Cheers

Hello,

Lots of good information contained in these posts. I just have a few points that I need help with regarding the NLV application. On the Manchester Consulate's website they state the following:

Documents proving sufficient financial means for living expenses and accommodation (€2,259.60 per month per applicant for the first 12 months plus €564.90 per family member that is financially dependent) e.g. stamped bank statements, pension etc.

I have read that some applicants have had bank statements notarised whereas the consulate only asks for 'stamped', which may mean stamped by the bank and not by a notary. As I'm trying to keep costs down, can anyone clear this up? Has anyone not had their proof of income notarised and had their application accepted?

My other query is regarding the forms EX 01 and 790-052. Did previous applicants print these out and fill them in by hand, or complete them online and then print them out?

Thanks

Gordon

Hi Gordon, we did our NLV successfully earlier this year and bank statements need only stamping and signing by the bank. The EX01 and 790-052 are completed online then printed and signed.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the information! Regarding the 790-052, the consulate provides an instruction sheet for completing the form, but I have downloaded the PDF file from three different sources and only a few of those stipulated boxes can be typed in online; is this what you found as well? For example, I can write my name and nationality, but not the address.

I just found the info below from an American who successfully applied which possibly indicates that the other information will be completed latterly by the consulate themselves?

  • This Tasas Extranjeria form (it’s #12 on that link) needs to be filled out and printed out in one go as you cannot save this form once you enter your details either
  • In the upper right corner, where it says “Ejercicio“, enter the year in the four boxes
  • Fill out the section “Apellidos y nombre” in the format of Last Name, First Name, Middle Name (Smith, Johnathan Greg)
  • Fill out the “Nacionalidad” box with your nationality
  • Repeat the previous three steps on pages 2 and 3 of the form
  • On pages 1 and 2, check the box that says “Principal
  • Do not fill out any other boxes on this form
  • Print all 3 pages of the form and make 2 photocopies as well

Following on from my previous post, the Spanish Consulate at Manchester advised me to print off the form 790 052 and fill it in by hand.

The links below might be helpful when applying for a NLV. They are all three written from an American perspective but the forms are the same wherever you are applying from. At least one of them registered the 790 052 online to generate a tax number but as far as applying for a NLV at the consulate I don't believe that is required (unless anyone knows differently!).

A friend of ours had just got her TIE. She managed to get it on the old system as she has been living in Spain for 3 years before Brexit . How does she know what type of visa she has ie lucrative or non lucrative . She has never worked in Spain.
