General question about private health insurance

Hi everybody,

I’m a bit confused about the terms of health insurance here in Spain. Am I correct in saying that all policies are annual and that there is no way to get out before that without losing money? My insurance agent gave me the impression when I signed up that I could cancel anytime by just giving 30 days’ notice. But now she tells me that I must pay till the end of the annual period if I cancel now. Anyone has any experience or comment? Thanks in advance Jo

Thats correct yes you have to pay the full year. Who are you currently using

You can pay monthly but the contract will be for the full year.

You either misheard or were misled, the latter being quite possible!.

Hi! I think I was misled. The agent was not very clear when I asked her a few years ago so I thought I could cancel just like any insurance. But that's not a problem anymore as we will use the national health care from now on. Thanks!

Hi! Already done ! According to Spanish legislation you only have to give 30 days notice supposedly. I sent them an email (which is also considered a legal document). Jo

In spirit of what has been discussed and some responses, would it be wise/possible/something I need to do, to provide a thread (similar to MSE in UK) to recommend good companies (and not so good companies?) for the likes of banking, health insurance and other services where there is a fair amount at stake? Any thoughts?

N.B. I'm still in early days planning of move so do not have a wealth of knowledge that maybe some have.
