I don’t know the area but would check to see if the house you are interested in was flooded.  I’d try to buy somewhere on a bit of a height. Water runs down and in Spain,when the rain is heavy, it is HEAVY. We’ve just spent quite a bit to make our galley roof watertight. Honestly, normally Spain is idyllic but when it rains, you’ll know all about it. If you go back for another viewing, look carefully at the inside down stairs walls and look for crusty / brittle areas. Look around the window areas too. 

After the famous Gota fria a few years ago , my friends had only moved into their house. Wife was over visiting family in (NI) when torrential rains came, husband up all night trying to stop his house from flooding. Since then he has kept sand bags and made new drainage areas outside to divert the water. It has taken a lot of time and money to waterproof his house. Fortunately he knew what to do and was able to sort the major problem out. 

Do your homework and you’ll be fine. 

understandable concern, however, within months of the horrendous Gota floods a few years ago,  a massive flood relief infrastructure was installed in Bigastro which takes any excess rainwater away from the town rapidly.  I had these works specifically investigated and confirmed by my surveyor in our buyer's survey;  I would not have bought here if there had been any shadow of doubt in my mind.   Just walk along the ring road and you will see evidence of the new drainage infrastructure.   The spanish authorities worked amazingly quick to get it all sorted.
