I know it is a long list, I'm hoping that by the time we get out to Spain long term, my husband wont be on so many, but it would also be good to know if we do run out when we visit in between moving we could get them.  i notice on other forums people said you get some tablet over the counter.  It is something that will be my mind at rest.  Thank you in advance if you able to help Sally

Carvedilol 3.125mg or 6.5mg

Digoxin 125microgram,    Edoxaban 60mg ,  Eplerenone 25mg,  Furosemide 40mg ,  Lansoprazole 15mg gastro-resistant capsules ,

Ramipril 1.25mg capsules ,  Ventolin 100micrograms inhaler

Inhalers cost about €50 but if you are entitled to SIP you can claim this back once you get the card or some pharmacies will refund it to you themselves as long as you bought it from them and kept the receipts and/or boxes. Bringing the UK prescription will help if something is on the iffy list. I say iffy as they are not supposed to sell antibiotics but some still do.
Possibly ask google about each medicine individually.

Hello Sally,

Can I put your question another way?

Why do you need a Doctor?

They spend 10 years basically studying WHY you need a medication to help your heart to function or to decide if you need antibiotics.  Agree?

Your husbands list of serious medications is mainly for his heart and lung function.   One Lansoprazole another name for Nexium as you know, and is available over the counter.

A pharmacist will know all about medications but only your doctor can decide if a person should continue same meds or increase/decrease dosage.   That’s why you visit them, get examined, blood pressure checks, etc. and why you get a prescription.

Of course many people don’t want to hear this and self medicate.

As previous post says, good idea to have your medical records with you and a good supply of medicines from your doctor.

Then in Spain,  a priority would be to find your local doctor.

Best wishes with your move to Spain.

Maybe mine are stronger, I pay €4 odd now with the SIP card on prescription.

Thank you for all your replies,  this is all new to us, my husband's heart problem etc and also moving to spain.  But we both know this is best for both of us. But he worries and I just need to ask the questions and put his minds at rest. That we can get the medicines we need.  We both can't wait to move to spain and enjoy a early retirement well a very early retirement, we have learnt "Life is too short" and we need to do this now xx

I have to agree with RayD, the Health System whether Public or Private is excellent here in Spain, a reminder of what the Health Service in the U.K. should strive to be. Also, the Farmacias are a great help with advice and supply of medications. Before I had Private Heath Insurance I didn't even need to go the the Medico for a prescription, I just showed the assistant in the Farmacia a copy of my repeat prescription from the U.K. and asked for the ones I needed, do not worry if the brand name is different as they are often cheaper alternatives than big named brands but identical in their composition.

Thanks John, it is reassuring to know we can get him sorted if we needed, we may have to travel backwards and forwards for a bit, but fingers crossed they will skip to the last procedure and it will all be done and dusted before we move permanently. X

If you are coming back and forward make sure everyone in your party has their EHIC Cards which will entitle them to emergency treatment at least until the Brexit mess is sorted.
