My solicitor has been excellent and the search she did on property was brilliant. Also she’s not expensive and is well established. If youd like her number???

I think you missed read my post. I have already purchased a house in Spain. What I was saying is you don’t need a Spanish bank account. I don’t and never have.

Hi, I'm still waiting for my solicitor to get back to me about bank payments. I suspect we'll go with Sabadell initially as this seems to be the well beaten route. Residency? I'm not planning to move to spain, just for hols. Will I need a visa?

You don’t need a visa. My house is just a holiday home. You can visit up to 90 days in any rolling 180 day period. Unfortunately I still work so I can only visit a limited amount of time with my works holiday entitlement so this doesn’t effect me.

Hi Mary, we’re in the process of buying & paid the deposit into lawyers account but told due to money laundering rules the balance must be by bankers draft. We bank with Sabadell and if we take home insurance ( which wasn’t much more than a quote from another insurance company) they will ...

...wave slightly more than half the fee of 560 euros . Barclays in the UK used to charge £25 , so quite a difference between the two banks . Sabadell will also charge a fee of 0.35 % on receiving your funds from the UK unless you use a company like Transferwise  or other currency transfer company to move the funds.

Be aware, this is the very reason I took out the home insurance with Sabadell, I cancelled it in good time for the following year, they confirmed it was cancelled, but went ahead and took the next years money anyway without telling me. Any savings I made were therefore lost. When I told my new insurance brokers they said they have heard such practices about Sabadell rather frequently.

Hi Steve. As I said earlier in the thread. We purchased our house during lockdown last year. We don’t have a Spanish bank account. We gave POA to our lawyer and transferred the funds via wise to her. She also set up all our direct debits on to our wise account.

I believe the answer is yes as you’re not in the EU.Also you can only visit for a maximum of six months. You will need an NIE number in order to get on the Padron at local town hall.Who recommended your solicitor?????

No visa required if only visiting for a maximum of 90 days in 180.

Hi, I'm buying a property in Cabo Roig and our solicitor has given us Sabadell bank details to open an account. I already have a (Transfer)Wise account which is free to use so do I need to have a Spanish bank account to complete the property purchase?  I'd really appreciate other people view...

...s and experience. Thanks

Hi Mary,

I just completed on my home and ended up transfering the money to my solicitors client account. He then made the final payements, which did not cost me ( he did say it might cost 50 euros). By the way I done the transfers over a few days at 20,000.00 euros each time as not to pay fees with Sabadell back. I also done this while paying the deposit to the builders original.

I'm going to see how the first year goes, before transfering everthing to transferwise.

good luck with the new home

Thank you Roger, and to everyone who has given me the benefit of their experience. It is so nerve-racking buying a property long distance and in a foreign language.  It's good to know how other people have trodden the same path.  Thanks
