OK thanks, it's a good car and we've only had it a few months so would prefer to keep it.

Hi, we have decided to bring our 5 yr old VW Golf  over and spanish-number-plates have quoted approx £1,200 for all aspects of the transfer process including ITV and changing the lights. The quote for lights alone was £750 from VW dealer in UK so I am very happy with the cost - they can also advise on avoiding import tax. I believe the cars are more expensive in Spain so it seems like a good move to me.

Hi Pete

Yes I take your point about resale totally. Our intention is to use the Golf in our holiday apartment literally until it is ready to scrap but for some people resale would be a problem. We were only offered £6,500 trade-in against buying a new Golf  in UK so I prefer to hang onto it and save on carhire in Spain 😃

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Can I just seek clarification on the six month maximum use of a UK registered car and non-return in 6 months. If the car were on Spanish soil say just under three months and was brought back after another 3 months for a further 90 days and so on, would this be ok?

Thanks Pete. This is what I expected to be the case, but will need to seek further confirmation wherever to confirm this.
