The Spanish are looking at a black hole of 48 billion euros loss to the tourist industry this year!!!   The headline about quarantine is a joke: those arriving will have to stay indoors  (self quarantined) :and only allowed out for shopping, medical etc.  That's what we are doing now!! And, how do you police it?  Impossible!!

The headlines will keep the Brits away.  The phrase shot and foot springs to mind.....  as it does with many other brilliant ideas from the Spanish government.  The Toyota factory started work and the workers went on indefinite strike, result, 2 models sent to Sunderland and the plant closed.   The taxis went on strike because of Uber:  What taxi can I use?  Uber of course!! Doh!

The EU is considering banning those from outside of Schengen visiting this year so that France. Italy, Germany, etc will count their tourism losses in the billions also.  Brilliant planning NOT!!

RayD I think I understand what you are saying. What I can't understand is the EU courts telling Britain that they cannot treat the rest of the EU differently from France. It was announced in the UK newspapers today that Germany intends opening its borders to, I believe, Norway, France and one or two other nations but not Spain or Italy. Which would apparently be a different interpretation of the law they issued to the UK. It would appear that the unity of the EU embraces all until it comes down to a threat being experienced by individual countries. In saying that closing your border to a high risk of reinfection makes perfect sense, but doesn't comply with the regulations which are in place to aid free movement apparently. I hasten to add I do not wish to criticise the workings of the EU only to clarify the ruling.

So this looks to me like I can plot a course....

UK to France, France to Germany, Germany to Italy, Italy to Tunis, Tunis to Algeria, Algeria to Morocco, Morocco to Spain...

So I will see you on the beach sometime in October and maybe selling sunglasses and fake handbags, but every cloud!

My alternative is to jump one of the migrant boats in the UK... they must be going back empty???

If you are planning on selling sunglasses etc you would need to register as Autonumo for tax and insurance at the INSS and Agencia Tributaria, 😉

Youre assuming I was going to do this legit?!!!

My Moroccan contact, Dave, said I don't have to worry about that, just make sure I can run fast and be packed up in under 50ms

Hanyman, you can practice at home with a sheet on your double bed. Lay whatever you intend selling on the sheet grab the four corners, pick the lot up and run. I think you could be very proficient in a very short period of time. Perhaps you could also spend some time practising pigin english on Duolingo. A new career awaits. Failing that you could learn how to sail and make a fortune.

Hi Ray

i agree with much of what you say here. Well, most of it actually. If only you had not said “whose only affinity to the country is their holiday home”

I have a slightly different view. As others have, I have invested many 100’s of thousands of € in what you refer to as a holiday home. I think that shows a great commitment to Spain. I actually consider it my second home, not a holiday home. For reasons I don’t need to explain here, we are not able to commit to living in Spain full time; I wish we could. How much more commitment must I demonstrate? I pay all taxes as required, I contribute to the economy in my social spend, obey their laws and have the greatest respect for the Spanish and their country. I do not feel that I expect Spain to give me anything, only a warm welcome when I visit, as they always have 🤪🥂

Totally agree. I am currently spending more here than in the UK naturally. If I am here for 5 months, which I can, then that is also the case. My 'holiday home' pays a LOT of Spanish wages.

Yes but some narrow minders think ALL Brits are lobster coloured beer swilling Spanish haters. The vast majorty do not fit this narrative. The Brit haters sold up and all their eggs are now in their Spanish basket so they are scared. They MUST be right or their world view might come crashing down on them on their life choice. Their utopia would be zero Brits. Then they would wonder why all those tapas bars, resturants and various other shops have closed, places have become ghost towns, crime has gone up and their bills have gone up too as the EU will not fill the gap that the British used to fill. Remember the EU are also skint. Careful what you wish for.

Great answer.......I'm the same.

I miss my second home if I can call it that. When I'm there it's my first home.
