Are people not capable of knowing how long they have been in a country or countries without an app to help them?

As I've said earlier in this thread, it's easy to keep track if your visiting pattern is going to be the maximum of 90 days in Spain, 90 days back in the UK, and so on, but if you visit Spain for shorter periods, it's best to use a calculator to keep track.

There are 26 countries that comprise the Schengen travel area, so you also need to bear in mind that any time spent in other Schengen countries will also deplete the 90 in 180 days limit.  For example, if you choose to travel to Spain via France, the 90 days would start counting down as soon as you land in France.

Schengen must have decided a calculator would be useful, as the link I've shared is the one on their website.

Kind regards,

Kim

I've already posted the calculator - on page 1 of this thread!  Here it is again:

For some people who travel a lot , just hours in a country they're passing through needs to be calculated.

Rather than have the risk of overstaying its easy to use the online calculator.

If you don't travel regularly then it's not an issue

I travel about 4 months a year.

Tuesday 3rd i.e next week I'm off to Bangkok via a stopover in Istanbul, then onto Phnom Penh for a week, then Vietnam and then back to Bangkok.

I've been like this for 30 years.

Some countries automatic 30 day visa, some counties automatic 15 day visa and some countries automatic 15 day visa with passport photograph.

People did travel before they had smartphones.

They were subject to catching flights and 90 day rule out of 183.

Pretty standard stuff.

Simply don't see what could be a problem

Hi Rickyroo,

None of the countries you mention are Spain or others in the Schengen travel zone, so irrelevant to the subject of the thread.  In any event, people who have been used to freedom of movement within Europe and Schengen now have to become accustomed to a new way of doing things, not least, because their tax status depends on it.  If they find a calculator useful, I think that should be their choice.  I'm not dictating anyone should use it, just making the information available.

By the way, the Schengen rule is 90 days in a rolling 180 days.  Your reference to 183 days is the limit for determining fiscal residency.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi

We have had a property in Spain for 5yrs but we live in the U.K. We have NI numbers and spend a lot of time in Spain. There are conflicting views on the maximum amount of time we can stay at one time.

Can somebody confirm please if it’s 90 days or 180 ?

Thankyou

Carol
