It seems cabo roig, calle Rubi, la zena and all of orihuela costa has been forgotten about.

The rubbish bins are overflowing

pathways knee high in weeds rubbish lines the streets and it looks disgusting. When you call the town hall no one answers. It would be great if we could all make an official complaint as we pay are community money I for one would like to know where the money is going to. Please remember orihuela costa.

It's going to Orihuela City, I went there recently I expected the pavements to be paved with gold given the amount of our money they spend on it.

I agree the whole area is starting to resemble a rubbish dump, I'm afraid you are whistling up a gum tree the authorities like our money but hate spending any of it in predominantly ex Pat areas.

Hi Jackie,

An article appeared in last week's Costa Blanca News, quoting a resident of La Zenia who was saying the same thing as you, but the lack of services was being blamed on Covid-19.  I seem to remember someone posting on here last year about the unresolved issue of the inadequate bridge over the AP7 at Cabo Roig, which has actually been going on since 2015.  The Costa's councillors always seem to complain on behalf of the residents, but it seems to make little difference to the City.  Covid-19 may be a reasonable excuse, but given the number of years that some of the issues have been ongoing, it also seems to be a convenient one.

Individual community petitions seem to have no effect and given that the Orihuela Costa starts at Punta Prima and runs right through to Mil Palmeras, how do you corral support from such a large area?  An online petition to denounce Orihuela City to the Valencian government?  As much as I sympathise with your situation, past experience would suggest that any improvement is only likely to come from self-help - and I'm not talking about withholding your local taxes!

Kind regards,

Kim

Where is it going? I smell corruption in the air.

RayD says, " It's all very well saying 'we pay our taxes' and 'we have rights as residents' when we all know that a large proportion don't pay their taxes and aren't registered as residents.".

RayD, an even larger proportion do pay their taxes and are also registered Residents, and are not getting the level of Public Services that this entitles them too.

As for your suggestion to organise working parties to carry out work that they pay annually to have done on their behalf. Why the hell should they !

As said , it is well documented that Orihuela City creams off the IBI funds from Orihuela Costas.

Interestingly, Religious Establishments are on the whole, exempt  from this tax.

I think I will sell up, buy a church and start up my own sect, !

😀

Ray,

as far as I can tell the only evidence available is visual, i.e. go to Orihuela city and see how well maintained the public areas are and then drive around Orihuela Costa and see how neglected it looks. Unless there are figures produced by the local authorities to show income and expenditure by area then the monetary evidence will not be available. Just looking at our small community in Los Dolses there are around 150 properties, a mix of houses and apartments. All are well maintained by the owners, they pay a community fee that includes the gardening. The owners generally look after their own stretch of pavement and road, maybe not to the front doorstep polishing levels of your Spanish neighbours but to a satisfactory standard. That seems to be the same on the other communities in Los Dolses.

Where the problems lie in Los Dolses are with the areas outside of the communities, no road cleaning, no weed control, minimal road repairs and rubbish areas constantly untidy. Given that the vast majority of properties are only occupied at best 50% of the time the local council must be making a good profit from the annual taxes that each property pays.

This year the public areas look particularly bad but that could be the fact that the council workers have been diverted to coronavirus related tasks.

If the common areas were tidied up and maintained on a regular basis then people would be more inclined to keep them tidy and it would be a win-win situation for the local authorities and the property owners.

Rgds,

Aitch.

RayD , I cant find where I read of the figures but they stated 60% of the overall Orihuela Region total taxes were raised from the Costas yet the same Costas recieved back just 5% of this total to maintain the area.

I know this cannot be relied upon as true data unless the official statistics are produced here ,but the evidence is apparent by the lack of street maintenance ,as others too have witnessed.

On the issue of only 50 % full time occupation of properties having a result of non payment of taxes, can you provide official data for this, or is it purely your assumption. 😏

I know ,but the fact the properties are vacant does not indicate that taxes are not being paid on the said properties
