RayD says, " It's all very well saying 'we pay our taxes' and 'we have rights as residents' when we all know that a large proportion don't pay their taxes and aren't registered as residents.".

RayD, an even larger proportion do pay their taxes and are also registered Residents, and are not getting the level of Public Services that this entitles them too....

...

As for your suggestion to organise working parties to carry out work that they pay annually to have done on their behalf. Why the hell should they !

As said , it is well documented that Orihuela City creams off the IBI funds from Orihuela Costas.

Interestingly, Religious Establishments are on the whole, exempt  from this tax.

I think I will sell up, buy a church and start up my own sect, !

😀

I've been given my plans some thought ,and have now decided on the name of my new Religious sect .

It will be called The LeckyLes-ites.

To become a member you have to pay $100 million  into my Swizz bank account.

Oh No, sorry ! Some Spanish person has already used that ruse.

😛

Hi Ray,

people are only in the properties part of the time but the annual taxes paid are the same regardless of occupancy. What this means is that at least half of the time there is not rubbish to collect and less wear and tear on the roads and other infrastructure. I don't have an objection to paying the annual taxes even though I am not in Spain but it would be nice if all areas had the same level of maintenance across the region.

Rgds,

Aitch.

I take the Padron issue RayD.

In areas were there are many second home owners the distribution of funds should not be determined by those purely on the Padron, the funds should be distributed in proportion to the properties registered for IBI. They all pay Tax, in some form and deserve the Services like everyone else

Second home owners, plus Residents are being unfairly dealt with in favour of the more Spanish dominant  Orihuela City IBI payers, and that's a fact evident by the Services provided.

RayD, from what you describe, it would appear you are also being fleeced, the same as others . 😉

That is very sad news about the kids and their closed playgrounds. Many of those kids will not understand the full  reasons behind it all In good weather kids should be out excercising, playing, and having fun with their friends.

As mentioned earlier  I would not be prepared to weed and sweep streets whilst I am paying local Governments to do that very job, but I would be prepared, if found necessary, to put my stint in at clearing Kids Play areas so as they suffered least as possible during this pandemic.
