Billing will have changed from two monthly to one monthly because you've had a smart meter fitted.

If you're sure that you're on the best contracted power supply, and plan, with Iberdrola, and aren't paying for unnecessary features like insurance, then just approach your selected new supplier and they will do the changeover for you.

Having said that, I've done calculations for several people over the last couple of years and have yet to find a company who consistently beat Iberdrola's Plan Noche.

Hi Jean, with reference to the reply by Jim, I agree, and in addition, would add that a benefit of the Smart meter installations , if that is in fact what you now have, is that it gives the facility whereby you can create an on line account which allows you ,for previous months Bill's, to view an hourly breakdown of your electricity consumption, and compare peaks and troughs allowing you to monitor your usage,  enabling you with information to help in choosing the tarrif most beneficial to your personal Electricity demands.

I am not exactly sure over what period in comparison that you have noticed your bill doubling in price as you go on to say the bill is still the same after being away for a couple of months. One thing to be borne in mind is that if it was the case that your Electricity consumption is very low when you are in residence then the bill for when you are not in residence would be not too markedly different . The reason being due to the fact that the Monthly Standing Charges levied by Spanish Electricity Companies are are extremely large if looked at in comparison with much lower Standing Charges in the U.K.

One thing you could try if you don't need electricity whilst you are not in residence is turn off the Main switch at your fusebox when leaving, make a note of the reading on your meter and upon your return and prior to switching back on the Main switch, make a note of the meter reading and confirm it has not altered from  the reading taken when you  left.

Most companies offer night plans as do Iberdrola. Changing suppliers is straight forward, the companies do it.

We are now with Nordic Energy. Saving us money so far and excellent communication

Thank you for the link. It's mind boggling. My situation is that this is a holiday home for me. I expect for the foreseeable future to spend only about 3 months of the year here at different times so my big issue is the standing charge.

Because I had so much trouble with tripping out when we bought I upgraded to 25kw which resolved that.

I don't know if another company might have a plan that suits me in those circumstances.
