We have sold our house in France and are due to complete on a property in Castalla next week. Being homeless we are renting accommodation in France not knowing if we are able to travel in these circumstances. Who can we contact regarding our situation?

Good grief, that's a tough one for you!
I've found this
https://www.caseslacambra.com/legal-flash-covid-19-royal-decree-463-2020-declares-state-of-emergency-in-spain/ It includes details of the reduced roles of notaries with a link to their website. I've only quickly scanned through it but I'm not sure if house purchases will be going ahead .......something else that will have a domino effect.
Possibly best to contact your abogado here as it is their job to know these things and the same in France.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thank you RayD.  This is part of the problem, we are unable to contact anyone at present, same in France.  All very frustrating as we don't even know where all our worldly goods are!!

Thank you Cheryl, very informative.  It seems that Notares are open for business so we could possibly complete the deal by Power of Attorney.

Hi flightcrew,

Currently, non-Spanish nationals are still being allowed to return to their habitual residence.  For you, arguably, that's your new home in Spain, so if you're able to complete on your purchase, this travel advice, which I've just posted in another thread, may be helpful for you:

I've had a look on the www.gov.uk website and found this information with a link to the "letter of attestation" (in the 2nd paragraph) you need to travel through France:

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france

There doesn't seem to be such specific advice on the Spanish travel section:

"British travellers who are currently in Spain and who wish to return to the UK are advised to make travel plans to do so as soon as possible."

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain/health#coronavirus

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hello Pete

Has your embassy been able to give you information?
This is a very difficult situation that you find yourself in.   You are in effect stranded.

Embassy should provide you with a few suggestions ?  This week is rather frantic but  as travel stops then staff should be free to deal with next list of priorities.

Stay well.  You will get through this.

It was a Bank Holiday in Spain yesterday so you may have better luck with your abogado today.

Thanks MeathMaria.  Have tried the embassy but have just been  informed yesterday was a bank holiday, so will try again.
