Well this comparison of figures between countries is not reliable as for example  are all Governments counting deaths in all settings like the UK?Opening all borders must be with conditions of course i.e proof by test not got C19,masks,further tests on entry to a country etc. Ok just wish we...

... here in the UK shut out borders and introduced conditions of entry !All Governments will want their economies returned particularly Spain (we all know how bad it has been there before with a v slow recovery),and they will need us Brits to get back for that reason asp. So best Sanchez and other European leaders continue talking to our Government (no doubt those talks are all taking place).Take care ,stay safe.

Paper talk, I know, but it does seem a sensible approach.

Thank you for this link and not surprised ,we all just have to wait and see. Interesting  times ahead for us all of us and on top of BREXIT and a forecast of economic recession!!

We are in the same boat,

Looking forward to being able to return to Spain for a holiday.

Just a few points to make about what’s been said.

No1. British tourism to Spain is around 18.5 million visitors per annum generating in excess of 14 billion euros.

No 2. The daily mail is a comic (my opinion) I don’t believe a word of it..

No 3. I pay spanish bills and taxes.( that shouldn’t be ignored).

N0 4. Makes more sense to allow visitors who can prove they don’t have the virus, be that a visa, govt letter or doctors note.

No 5.i accept the health of each person is the top consideration, but these issues can be negated with sensible policy’s.

Just my thoughts

Terry n kate.

I am in the UK in lockdown as our March 15th flights to return to Alicante were cancelled.

My problem is this: I am resident in Spain so I imagine that I would have less trouble actually getting to Spain than other non-residents. However, my partner is not resident yet and will not be able to apply for residency for a year or so.

Could we fly or drive down together? How could we justify his presence?

I'm guessing that as he is not resident he won't be able to come with you. If you don't get many replies on this thread it might be worth starting a new one.

'Partner' has no meaning or standing in law but even if you were married he still couldn't fly and he probably wouldn't get past check in at the airport if he tried.

There have been instances where residents have been refused check in because they couldn't produce a residence card or only had a photocopy.  In one case I personally know of the would be passenger had to sit and wait in UK while his wife in France posted his original 'Carte de Sejour' (= residence card) to him.

Re 'partners', not saying it applies to you but in theory any person who was resident could meet a non resident in the street and call him their 'partner' in order to gain him entry!

Thank you, Cheryl, I suppose I already imagined this would be the case for the time being. We must be patient!

Thank you Movingon,

As I said to Cheryl, I thought this would still be the case but as Spain is quite up-to-date on relationships I did wonder if there was any leeway as I am resident.

Never mind, we’ll have to wait until tourists are allowed into the country!

Thanks for your help.
