Hi there,

My wife and I are looking to retire to live in Spain in the 2nd half of 2024. We are not set on a specific area as yet, but we will be looking for inland properties from Valencia to Murcia and Almeria.

We are currently on the mailing lists for several Imobliarios and have visited various areas over the last year or so. I was sent the details of a property on the outskirts of Castella and following some very basic research, found that it appealled to me.

Therefore, we are seriously thinking of using Castella as a base for our next visit. Can anyone recommend any reasonably priced accommodation that serves breakfast and also any other tips we may find useful?

Many thanks,

Mark

Are you EU/EEA or UK passport holders? This will determine whether or not you require a visa in order to move to Spain permanently.

We are UK passport holders and would be on a non-lucrative visa. We have already investigated all the legal implications and recognise there are local peculiarities depending on where we decide to reside. At present we are in the early stages of determining the region's we are interested in.

That's good you are aware of the requirements of the NLV route and that application must be made to the Spanish Consulate in the UK.  Idealista is a website that holds details of most properties for sale in all areas and not just those by Estate Agencies. Their website enables you to draw on their map the area(s) you are most interested in. The following link will take you to it:

Thanks John, much appreciated. I am registered with Idealists as well as Kyero and a few others. Are you a resident in or around Castella?

Unfortunately not, I'm in Benidorm and from Northern Ireland.

Hi give booking.com a try, they are very good if you enter all your criteria.

A couple of websites that may be of help before you make the leap are:

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff, and

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   This website, and their Facebook page, is for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.

You are looking for accommodation. Hotels.com, trivago and booking.com show guest Houses. If you prefer to go self-catering then try Vrbo.com and Holidaylettings.co.uk as they verify the rental licenses before accepting the ad.

Thanks. We have been looking on the usual sites but we'll try the others you have mentioned. 👍
