Hello lovely people of Castalla, I am thinking of moving here am in my late 60’s and live on my own. I would love any hints and tips on living here. The good, the bad and the ugly if any. Would I feel lonely or would I be welcomed as an ex pat. Cost of moving, cost of heating, air con etc.

I look forward to hearing.   Lynn

There is no paradise, but with a little bit of imagination you can build your own, any place anywhere. This is my own experience after living now for over 50 yars in Spain. You will need your own means of transport and a lot of mistrust (sad but true). Castalla can be cold in the winter. These are not the best times for buying property. Owing to Corona prices will have to go down, so don't hurry. Be careful with property agents and NEVER pay upfront for anything. See Jim's guides for iteresting details.

Hello dear Lynn,

I hope you're fine. As I see, I'm the first person answering from Castalla. I'm a Hungarian woman, married to a man from this town. (We owned an air conditioning business here.)

What could I tell you about this town?

Pros:

  • It's located to 30 min. from Alicante.
  • It's very well connected to the motorway.
  • Beautiful surroundings
  • It's a safe and quite town.
  • Castalla town has a variety of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and supermarkets with national and international products, Medical Centre, primary and high schools.
  • Lovely street market twice a week.

Cons:

  • Cold and windy winter but I think there's any comparison with British winter.
  • I've been thinking about what more could I add to this point but in my point of view there's no more serious negative points.

I've found this website related to your question, it could be interesting for you: https://www.kyero.com/guides/en/place/castalla-0l1153

There are a lot of ex pat in Castalla International, also living in Castalla town. They seem a lovely community but I'm not the better person to talk about this question. Obviously I've some good friends from the UK but I don't participate in their every-day life. I hope later you'll be informed about this.

That's all :) I'm attaching some photos made by me.

Have a nice day and take care! And sorry for my English, I'm learning it :D

Hello Lynn. I am not sure whether you are moving to the town or the urbanisation  but as someone who moved to Castalla International in August, I thought I could share my knowledge. Castalla town is lovely and the more I explore, the more I find. The public transport system will not be as large as you are probably used to: a bus to Alicante, so you may need a car, however Castalla taxis is very reliable and I use it regularly.

Everyone here is very friendly and will welcome you in. You will have lots of people to ask advice from and who can recommend restaurants, shops, trades people etc. There are lots of groups and activities within the urbanisation to join.

Regarding costs, it will depend on the house you buy, as some have central heating and air con already. Mine didn't but I had a local business fit a log burner. Costs are usually cheaper than uk but you don't have as much choice as to providers.

Hope this helps. Please post any other questions.

Hello Lynn. You will love CASTALLA wherever you decide to live. I lived in the campo which is the country only 7 minutes from the town and the international area for 15 yeas but unfortunately had to return to england would be there today if it was possible. People are so friendly whether you live in urbanisation or campo. Most houses in campo now have central heating and log burners. Whatever you choose I know you Will be happy. Lots of fiestas and markets etc in town even the doctors are lovely and so helpful. Good luck
