Hi - just wanted some opinions on whether to have a water heater that uses gas bottles or is electric more efficient.

We had an electric heater when we first had our holiday home 20 years ago, then changed over to gas about 15 years ago.

Do you think we should stick with gas or change back to electric or is there an affordable solar water system ?

Just some different opinions would help

Thank you

Nobody else can properly advise you on whether to stick with gas or go back to electric, you need to do your own calculations on comparative costs

Solar panels  power  is a  big  instant   cash  outlay. Maybe  worth  it  if age is on your side

In  a few years time do you want  to  be carrying  Bottle  of Gas  back and forward  to  Suppliers

Those  are my reasons  for voting  for Electricity  water heater

My logic for giving a gas vote is based on the fact that you are not paying to keep a tank of water hot 24 hrs a day.  With gas the heat is only on when you are using hot water. Admittedly you may run out of gas while you are in the shower but that's no different to draining your hot water tank.

If you have two bottles and a automatic change-over valve that will not happen. The valve will indicate when one of the bottles is empty and you can swap it a your leisure.  Of course, if you have a natural gas supply this won't apply.

Has to be solar. The south is getting warmer and once the initial outlay is made free hot water, as our US cousins would say, no brainer. Happy days.
