Hello we heard on the Spanish news that they mention gas to produce electricity - we are waiting for our bill now. Gosh hope it’s a mistake, let us know how you get on at the office please.
We finally found the office in Almoradi and what joy. The staff were lovely but as usual, could not understand our problem. My complaint was that we were not told about the Government's tax when we took the contract out in July, despite Iberdrola knowing a tax was coming in April. I accept they did not know the percentage but we should have been warned. I feel we were deliberately misled and shall be contacting my solicitor.
My husband pointed out that nowhere on the bill was there a record of the readings. He was told he could read the meter but given a new box was put in at the end of our road and is shared with others, we were denied access by Cooperativa Electrica Catral our previous suppliers. I think this is a case of being given a Licence to print money......................

If you think that you contacting your solicitor to have a moan at Iberdrola and their contracts, you are wasting your time and to be honest laughable you would think this would achieve anything other than to make your solicitor richer.
I´m not even sure you have an argument, other than your own misunderstanding.
Not meaning to be horrible, just a dose of reality - save yourself the time and money.
If concerned about the bills/electricity.
Old boilers use a large % of home electricity. Replace with solar hot water system. Or if not viable latest eco boilers.
All old equipment uses far more energy than its modern counterparts - so aircon, fridges. I noticed a drop in bills when switching to a new boiler.
Of course, solar panels for electricity, though for some the approx 8-year payback and initial setup cost are unjustifiable.
August bill €148 - 170m2 3 bed / 3 storey property 2 people working full time from home, aircon running 2 rooms - Iberdrola. Modern fridge-freezer, eco boiler. We don´t use gas.

Hi Heatray,
I'm curious about your comment, "My complaint was that we were not told about the Government's tax when we took the contract out in July....". If Iberdrola had warned you about the Government's new tax, what would you have done differently? Even if you'd contracted with an alternative energy supplier, you would still have to pay the tax - as you've said yourself, it's a "Government tax", not an Iberdrola tax.
As I see it, you may have a complaint about affordability, i.e. that you can't afford an unexpected and significant increase, but then I would expect Iberdrola to offer anyone with genuine hardship issues an alternative way to pay, perhaps some kind of 'payment plan'. I do understand your frustration, but I think it's important that you focus on those issues where you have genuine complaint and can expect a mutually acceptable resolution, otherwise you'll be wasting money on legal fees that would be better put towards your energy bill.
Kind regards,
Kim

Before we signed up with Iberdrola, I kept stressing are there any hidden costs? No, I was assured everything was covered. I accept we joined after the amount of government tax was announced but since Iberdrola knew in April that it was coming, we should have been warned. That is my complaint. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought they would charge the same for gas as for electric.
With regard to white goods they are all fairly new (maximum four years) and all are energy saving. The water is heated by panels, we have a gas hob, rarely use the oven and all the air conditioning units have been replaced in the last two years. They are only used in the evenings (lounge) and during the night in the bedroom. All the light bulbs are LEDs.
By contacting a solicitor, who I trust implicitly, I want Iberdrola to consider their selling pitch and be completely honest with new customers..

Hi. I think I am angry because we were not given the full facts. If I ask someone selling, for the whole picture, I expect it. I do not want lies. I know they did not know how much the Government were going to charge but I think they should have warned us. I would still have gone ahead with the contract.

I pay 16 cents day and 11 cents night no hidden extras and my contract is until March 26 is that good. Thank you.
Change to another supplier. Iberdrola have always been expensive. I changed to Holaluz nearly 2 years ago and my bills are definitely less than before. The bills are sent monthly by email, they are in Spanish but its easy to understand.
Why they are using so much gas to produce electriciy is crazy, when the sun and solar panels can produce electricity far cheaper and greener. Spain as we know has an abundance of sun.
Gas has been used more for producing electricity recently, since EU countries signed up to a greener agender and stopped using so much coal to produce gas.
All bills should show meter readings and you should be able to check the meter. Have you got a Smart meter fitted? Surely it must be illegal to prevent you from accessing your own meter?
I read recently that a gas pipeline from Nigeria to Spain and Italy is being built. Of course China have invested heavily in Nigeria, a country I'm not a fan of.

Hi Cat Roc,
Is your bill for a residential property? Your potencia of 9.2kw is high, unless you have a very large property with exceptional power requirements?
We have a 3 bed, 3 bath, detached house with private pool, which can be run without supply interruptions, on a potencia of only 5.75kw. You may want to talk to your energy provider about reducing your contracted potencia, as one way of reducing your bills 🤔
Kind regards,
Kim
