After a lifetime’s experience, I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that the only ‘fixes’ is covering oneself with something like Autan and keeping a tube of Anthisan handy at all times - being reduced to misery every year otherwise. We have tried the ‘sonic’ indoor plug in repellents which did absolutely nothing noticeable other than terrify our cats who could of course hear what we could not - they came in the minute we unplugged them. The plug-in liquid repellent things work indoors - no, don’t like them, but am not dead yet and neither is my mother who has used them for 60 years! We bought one of the electric insect killer machines from Leroy late last year - they work, but have a limited radius. I have yet to discover an effective outside deterrent apart from having the area ‘fogged’ every 4 x weeks or so - and the smoke coils make me feel unwell.

The cologne worked better than the plug ins or insect repellent. Good luck. You can purchase one with a spray attachment on the top, not a lot of money from Consum and Mercadona, Lemon is best, the Spanish say, but others I have used have been just as good.
Also, my Mother used to be eaten alive when I was younger and they did not affect me. Since the change of life I am eaten alive so maybe it is a hormonal thing, don't know.

Thanks to everyone who has advised use of Cologne - will invest in a bottle and try it out!

We are moving to Spain and looking at Elche or Catral areas.
I get bitten a lot by mosquitoes and when looking around Guardemar in May I was badly bitten! Are some areas worse than others for Mosquitos? I didn't know if Guardemar was worse because of the Salt Lakes??? Would being further inland at Elche or Catral be better?...

Thanks for your help
Try showering with lemon body soap and then lemon creams after drying, was told while in Barbados they hate lemon

Definitely better inland providing there are no large lakes or open water deposits nearby

My neighbour recommended this and it’s worked for me!
Where did you buy it, please Sephine?
Geoff.
Mercadonna in SAN Fulgencio. Probs spelt that totally wrong! We spray it all over about 5 or 6 in the evening and it keeps them away. It smells nice too!
Thanks Sephine.
I'll get some next time I'm in Mercadona.
I've also heard that Avon "Skin So Soft" does the trick. So much so that apparently the British Army buy it for their troops! On another posting a whole load of people said it works, but I haven't tried it.
Geoff.
Yes I’ve heard that about skin so soft too. Good luck.
