Hi there, have you heard that the Halifax and Lloyds Banks are closing its doors to British Spanish residents. It has said that they are informing customers that they are closing all accounts. Any idea what people are going to do?
Hi Angela, yes it would appear that a lot of folks have already heard about this, see replies to my post 13 August in banking and finances (More major UK banks to shut British accounts for Spanish residents). You may find some of the subsequent posts helpful or informative. None the less, irrespective of the initial cause, down the line it eventually looks inevitable that this will continue to happen. Totally unnecessary, but unfortunately due to a referendum where most people didn’t understand the potential consequences, that’s where we are.

HSBC allows non UK residents to open account.....have not needed this personally as already bank with them but know someone who has. Took about 4 weeks.
