We are moving to Costa Blanca in October and looking to hire a car for three or four months until we can buy a car.
Having looked at the usual rental companies they seem really expensive and just wondered if anybody knew of a private hire we could use or maybe somebody who is back or going back to the UK during that time and would like to hire their car to us.

You could try Alfi, Spain Car Hire - he's based at La Marina, but can deliver to the airport if required:

His cars aren't brand new, but my friend uses them regularly and they're always clean and tidy.
Also, have you tried Lara Cars? They receive very good reviews on this forum:

A word of caution; hire for reward will almost certainly be expressly excluded on a privately owned cars insurance.
I used Edi last year and they were really easy to deal with.

take my advice and buy a small car
Renting will cost around 800 - 1000 euro per month
If you’re going to be in Spain for a long while thereafter just buy a cheap car and use it until you want to upgrade
we used FWR Eurocars and Frank there is really helpful
