Thinking of buying a villa in Catral
We are thinking of buying a villa about 5 mins drive south of Catral. But we are concerned about how often this area has flooded in recent years. Can any residents in the Catral area advise ?

Hi,
You would need to be a bit more specific as to the location.
However the whole area can be subject to flash flooding caused by a 'Gota Fria' , a sudden heavy downpour.
The last Gota Fria that caused such extensive flooding stretched across the whole low lying area, including Catral, however this wasn't helped with the release of water from a Dam inland, this was devastating for a lot people.
You would need to ask local people where you are looking to buy, who don't have any vested interest, and will tell you what the immediate area could be subject to.

Hello. We purchased our property in Campo Catral 2010 and have had no problems re flooding from previous Goya Fria’s. As previously stated the flooding hit whole of the Vega Baja area in September 2019, Their is a report somewhere on this forum as to the main cause, some say opening flood gates to divert water from various towns caused the damage. Yes I agree, ask people in the area. Good luck.
Hi I have a villa for sale costablanca-spain.com .. The pictures show the property as was. As you've heard the area was flooded and you should ask to see the pictures of the after flood.
Ours had water upto one step below getting into the property so we only had a damp mark whilst it dried out.
I haven't been able to get to the property due to the pandemic and work but it just needs a paint inside, the overhead fans replacing (as the blades are made of hardboard and drooped).
The price I've set is low for the amount of building and gives the new owner some equity once repainted. Pool has been regrouted and resealed, new pump. The land (before the flood) has 200 ton of roadstone and then 10 plus tone of chippings, probably why we didn't suffer too badly.
If you are interested I can put up the after flood pictures too.. I was there the weekend after it happened to access and brushed up the dust it had left.
I'm selling cause we just don't go any longer.. My parents were usingthe Annex for 6 months a year but they are in their 80's and its becoming too much for them.
Regards Steve
Do you have link for property for sale? I am looking at Catral for purchasing, pictures before and after flood would be good
