Thanks very much for the information but one thing you mentioned is no longer correct, France does not require any proof of jabs, the country is completely open.

France may be fully open but Spain is not.  If you count as unvaccinated (for whatever reason) you STILL need to fill in a form and have a negative antigen test within 24 hours of arrival, or have proof of recovery.  This is a minor inconvenience with antigen tests now costing about a tenner, all self-administered and proof using a phone app, but it's extraordinary that this restriction is still in place when most other countries have given it up.  If you're travelling into Spain overland, it would seem sensible to carry an antigen test with you.

We drove through France into Spain and apart from being asked at the Chanel Tunnel if we were both fully vaccinated we were never stopped or asked for any proof of vaccination. Nobody seemed interested and there was no customs stops entering Spain as we were already in the Shengun area.

Good afternoon,

Apologies for going off topic slightly, but was wondering if anyone who has driven from the UK via France on the DFDS NEWHAVEN / DIEPPE ferry and what the queues were like to embark at Newhaven?

Apparently due to the French emissions control much of France requires you to display a "Crit' Air" sticker on the windscreen and failure to do so can result in quite a big fine. I think its a bit like the CO2 zones which i gather are popping up all over the UK now.

Anyway as I´m planning a quick drive to the UK soon and it only cost €4.51 I've applied for one as it seemed fairly simple once I had deciphered the required info off my Spanish log book.

The web site if anyone wants it is  https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/

Thanks in advance to anyone who can enlighten me on the queueing situation at Newhaven and/or Dieppe

Regards

Gary

I don't have a crit-air certificate. When entering France you are not stopped at customs as the French operate the passport checks on the English side of the channel. If you are going to be stopped from travelling it will be there. However, all you will be asked for is your passports.

I suppose if you are stopped when in France you may be asked to produce one but we hardly saw any police presence on the motorways. As long as you are driving in a safe manner the chances of being stopped are neligable.

Totally agree with your comments, safe driving, correct documentation, plot a route (mix between toll / no toll roads) UK Photo ID card (Not paper version) option available to use a tag device (purchase in advance) emissions certificate (Because I went into several city centres) reviewed and booked a couple of nice hotels. App for cheapest fuel in France and Spain. Loved every minute driving from UK through France into Spain. 5 days travel each way. Doing again in September.

Interesting post so I had a look into this and it seems it's a little like the congestion zone in London. I also checked where it is a requirement to display the sticker and found it was just a few large cities so if your travelling on the motorway then it does not apply.
