Relocation of pets especially cats
Hi;
Has anyone transported their pets from the UK to Alicante airport? If so did you encounter any problems with the transportation and paperwork and the settling in of the pets at your new property. Regards

Hi,
I'm not sure if there are any airlines still transporting directly from the UK to Alicante. The last airline still flying animals was Monarch (now sadly defunct). Ryanair and Jet2 had given up years ago. We flew our dog from Leeds /Bradford about 6 years ago and it went smoothly. Let me know if you find anyone.
It´s perhaps better overland. There are companies who offer this service but we prefer to use our own car through the Eurotunnel and France but Covid and Brexit are making this difficult.

We transported our two cats some years ago. Not by air, but overland with a specialist animal transporter, which was far easier for us. They were delivered to a local cattery, with whom the transporters have a working relationship, where they remained until we had full possession of our property. We kept them in one room overnight and then gave them the run of the house for a couple of weeks and when they were used to that, we opened the door. They were fine.
The only difficulty was that one of them developed a horrendous allergy to the fleas here and ended up with raw weeping patches on her skin, poor creature. The only treatment the vet could find was to dose her with Stronghold plus every three weeks and antihistamine injections every four weeks, which at least kept it basically under control.
Apart from that, they were fine. Although not over keen on summer heat. We now have two rescued feral cats and they aren’t too keen on summer heat either!

Hi there, we brought our 4 cats over from Dublin airport to Alicante at the end of October using a agency/company who were very helpful and reassuring. Check with agency but don’t think Alicante allow animals on weekends and public holidays, national and regional, which limits you again. Agency will also advise on injections, cat passport, final health certificate 48 hours before you leave, as will your vet. There were very limited flights that carried cats for us so we ended up arriving late at 8pm, our of hours. Although allowed, they charge extra and ended up paying extra €350 and had to wait about an hour, which felt like 3 after the days we’d had. Cats are indoor cats and very subdued and scared on arrival at apartment but all completely themselves again within 24 hours. We just moved to a more permanent accommodation yesterday and only took about 30 minutes for them to adjust and make themselves at home. Do ask about anything that’s worrying you that’s not covered by above.

Many thanks for the reply. I believe there is a company transporting pets by air via British Airways. I will make further enqs. Regards

Thanks for the reply. I think the most concerning thing is that the cats are able to adjust asap. Regards

Thanks for that. I think the main concern was for the cats getting used to the new environment and the summer heat. The dod would be okay where ever he is, but again I think the heat may effect him in the summer. Regards
