Hi all, I’m travelling in two weeks on the ferry from Portsmouth. I thought I would fill in what I could on the SpTH form and then finish it 48hrs before. I seemed to be able to complete the form and got the QR code. I just wanted to check if there’s another step or if that’s everything I need to do. I read on the forum you can’t finish it until 48hr - so just wanted to check - is it different if you’re going via the ferry ?

H Anniebeth19,

When you go to the landing page for the Spanish health website, it offers you separate portals for travelling to Spain by plane or ferry:

https://www.spth.gob.es/

All references to completing the Spth within 48 hours of travel are for when you´re travelling by air.  As you need the QR code for boarding and the system has generated it for you, I think you´ve done it correctly.  If you should need to modify it before travelling (for example, if the rules for entry to Spain should change), you can do so here:

https://spthm.puertos.es/

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you Kim so much for the reply.

With all my researching I could only see everyone saying 48hrs to complete the form but if that just applies for flying then that makes sense. I definitely filled out the form relating to the port.

I also would have flown if the car hire wasn’t nearly a grand !

Thanks again for your help, I just keep worrying we’re going to be stopped along the route somewhere.

Hi Graham,

Possibly.  I thought it was odd that there are reference to flights on the Ferry form, but short of sitting with my laptop and PC at the same time and checking the forms against each other, word for word, I can't say categorically.  There's no explanation in the Q&As for why you have to go through different portals, depending on your mode of transport.  It does say that the health section shouldn't be completed more than 48 hours in advance of travel, but given that you enter your date of travel on the form, I'm surprised it would generate a QR code if you do it too early - unless I'm crediting the system with being more sophisticated than it actually is 😉

Find it strange and unusual for our government to complicate things!!

Without looking into it they do look the same.

As i understand it you are correct regarding the QR code, you can fill the form in anytime excluding the health section which can only be completed within  2 days of travel .

Hi, we travelled last week Portsmouth to Santander and I also received the QR codes a week before departure. I was worried that something had gone wrong as all information sites state that it can only be completed 48 hours before. However it was accepted, no problems so no need to worry.

Thanks very much for your reply. I hadn’t read anywhere that the ferry form allowed you to complete it and receive the QR code well in advance. Thanks for the confirmation - can relax now and enjoy the journey.
