Can anybody help?

I am importing my car from the UK and in order not to be liable for their equivalent of vat ( iva) apparently I need to supply a document confirming I have permanently left the UK. However after numerous phone calls to various authorities in the UK no one seems to be able to supply me with the required documentation. Help in this matter would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks

During 6 months after bein granted Residencia you can import you vehicle as part of your personal belongings exempted from taxes and duties. Most important: you need a "COC" from the manufacturer. Lack of this document will cause additional costs which can easily exceed 2-3K. Refer to any customs broker for all relevant details.

Conveniently obtain such document from a Spanish consulate in the UK.

We changed our registration in July this year. Luckily we brought it here before Brexit ! We had to change all the lights. Front and back. The fog light is in the wrong position . We had to prove that we bought the car into Spain before the end of 2020. Luckily we had a copy of the ferry ticket with the car on it. If we hadn't got that the import tax is 21% after Brexit. We used a company to do it. Register-Your-Car.com 966752052 was their number. I can recommend.  We had been messed about by another well known company ! The car had to have an ITV and all the documents changed legally. We had to pay Spanish car tax and get Spanish insurance. I sometimes wonder if it was worth it ! With the price of second hand cars it may have been simpler to go back to the UK and sell the car and then buy a Spanish one. It definately needs thinking about if there's also 21% Spanish tax involved. I'm not sure about proving where the owner was or is living. My understanding is what counts is when the car was imported into Spain. Before Brexit it's tax free and after Brexit there's 21% to pay.
