Hi all,

An interesting and encouraging article from El Pais about the progress of Spain's vaccination programme:

https://english.elpais.com/society/2021-04-28/covid-19-vaccination-drive-in-spain-nearly-half-of-60-69-age-group-have-received-at-least-one-shot.html

Following a call by some regional presidents to adopt the UK strategy of giving as many citizens as possible the first dose of a vaccine, all presidents of the regional governments met last week and agreed to continue with Spain's current strategy of fully vaccinating citizens by age group.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Steve,

That is good news.  Given that the issue for the Janssen jab was/is the same as AstraZeneca, I thought it was strange to suspend deliveries to the EU, but as that action was taken by Johnson & Johnson in the US, I guess it was a commercial decision, until the EMA confirmed its approval.  It should certainly be a game-changer in ramping up the speed of the vaccination programme.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the ages of your friends who had Janssen please?  I ask because, while the detail behind the headline of the article shows that 47.1% of 60-69 year olds have had a first dose, I suspect the greater proportion of that figure is in the 60-64 age band, as the 65-69 band is the curent "sandwich".  It would be interesting to hear which vaccine(s) the 65 to 69 year olds are receiving 🤔

Kind regards,

Kim
