You cannot register a vehicle unless you are a registered resident having a NIE and proof of residence, i.e. deed or rental agreement. In any case, using any foreign vehicle in Spain is subject to the owner's personal circumstances, so no need to worry or waking up sleeping dogs. PM me if any doubts.

You absolutely do not need to be resident to register a car!

You can register a UK car in Spain as a non resident.

You have to pay IVA on the current value of car at 21% and 10% custom duty. On a six month old car that will be quite expensive. These can be waived or reduced if you are taking up residency but not as a non resident. These waivers only apply if you had the car in UK for 12 months before coming to Spain. The value of the car is either the price listed in the Spanish government price list or, if less than a year old, the purchase price of the car.

You will need to get green plates issued until the car is reregistered on Spanish plates at a cost of about €150. It will need to have and ITV (MoT equivalent) even though it hasn't reached the age when an ITV is first issued. You will also have a CO2 emissions test and a certificate will be provided along with the relevant sticker for LEZ purposes. These will also cost around 150 euro.

Unless you have headlights which can be adjusted, you many need to replace them. You many need to move your rear fog light if it is on the wrong side. Then there is the registration fee at the trafico which is around 100 euro.

Taxes, especially in Spain, and documentation (again especially in Spain) can be complicated so you would probably need a gestor to assist you which, again, comes with a cost.

No idea how much your car cost but I'll assume 15000 euro. Dury would be 1500 euro and IVA over 3000 euro. Other costs including headlights and registration about 1,000 euro then the gestor costs.

Probably cheaper to leave that car in UK and buy an older one here.

Yes, you do need an NIE but I assume you already have that. You definitely don't need to be a resident, though.

Thanks you for your prompt response.

I will take note of what has been outlined and consider my next step.
