Second-hand car values

The best way of finding out a reasonable value would be to go onto Ooyyo website and find a comparable car already for sale.

I think that the 18,000 euros is probably nearer the value but without knowing fuel type milage etc it is difficult to say.

Thank you, I haven't tried that one.  I know it's only done 21,000 km, but when I looked on SegundoMano, I realised there are several different engine sizes, so I'll need to find out which one she has.

'Book' values are one thing, what a buyer or dealer might give you for it can be very different so hawking it around is the only way to find out realistically.

Also if a new car comes loaded up with manufacturers options then while it will bump up the sticker price seldom will that be reflected in the second hand value.

I can't help you, but suggest you might get a reasonable idea by working out the official value used to calculate transfer tax, as per part 4 of my car buying guide.

Not sure how much this will help but here goes:

The Rav4 Hybrid only comes with one engine - the 2.5VVti. I found one 2017 car with 39,000km on Ooyyo for €21,900. This would appear realistic as Parkers puts a similarly UK vehicle at between £17k & £20k. Specifications vary between UK and Spain, but second hand prices in Spain are generally higher than here. So €12k appears ridiculously low and even €18k seems on the low side.

Thanks Paul, that's very helpful.  My friend was pleasantly surprised when her valeter suggested Eu 18k, as she would have been happy with Eu 16k, so I'll tell her not to let it go too cheap - and definitely not for £12k!

Sadly, her husband died unexpectedly last year, after moving to Spain only 18 months earlier; she's tried to stay, but now she just wants to be back in the UK with her children.  Hopefully, this will give her a little extra with which to move back.
