Hi everyone. We are thinking of buying a holiday apartment  in the area but are concerned about flood risk if we buy near the river. What are people thoughts? Are the risks high? Anyone ever had any damage? All views welcome.

As it's a flat area, it's a sensible question. However, when we had the most extreme weather seen here for several decades, the Segura did flood and the several bridges were out of action for a while. However, Formentera itself is high enough above the Segura that you've no need to concern yourself.

During the recent floods several roads close to the river were out of action along with the bridges, and it was interesting to see just the tops of lemon trees poking out above the flood waters, with some completely submerged.

Hi. Thanks for that. Did any properties near the river get damaged? We have seen a property a hundred yards or so from the river in Los Palacios but are aware that the Segura river does flood quite a lot, especially in the winter. I wonder if the roads you mention were affected in the floods.

I'll let someone in Formentera answer your question, but in the eleven years I've lived out here the Segura has only flooded the once that I'm aware of.
