There are no rules, no stipulations, its an online account but can open in branch if you prefer. We had to as a non resident. I think I,ve recommended them at least 30 posts and only 2 people bothered to press the helpful button. That I find disappointing and now I sometimes dont bother with a reply. Took me a month in total of in depth research of every Spanish bank, N26, Starling, Transferwise, and more online foreign names I cant even remember. Hope you do it, its your money they,re grabbing.

Regards

Pauline.

Evon75, why not have your UK State Pension paid direct into your Spanish account?   It is usually done at a better rate than the rate you would get elsewhere.   Mine is due on a Friday (every 4 weeks) and usually is received in my Spanish account on the following Monday.

I have a commission free Bankia "Cuenta On" account and I misread the information in the letter that was sent to all account holders in December. Like many I assumed that accounts including "Cuenta On" would be moved to the Por Ser Tu programme - which involves significant commissions.

I've now got it in writing (via email and Facebook) that the Cuenta On account is not affected by the migration of many accounts to the Por Ser Tu programme.

I'm with Transfer wise and paying with them but need to open a Spanish account for residency. So I can use Transferwise transfer each month and avoid fees.

I meant to quote PaulSav above........

Well I might have only pressed the "helpful" button once but I have found your posts useful. I think most people don't notice the button to be honest. I am a non resident and noted that the options for creating the Wefferent account online don't include the identification option of Passport. Based on your experience did you just need to visit the branch and take your passport, NIE (sheet of A4 paper with NIE number) and proof of address in Spain? Did you need anything else? Did you set up a joint account?

Thanks for your posts.

Tony

Bill, we were with Sabadell for 10+years after they took over Halifax.es. We have paid over 2000€ in charges as a non resident account, wouldnt alow us a basic bank account with 3€ month fee as not a resident and wanted us to transfer 700€ per month for the expansion account to avoid fees,(which was ludicrous as a non resident, I dont need 8400€ year of our money holed up in Spain) so hence we changed to Cajamar. Now they want to charge residents too, so glad I left them. To transfer large amounts of money I recommend you use Transferwise as they give you the best rates possible

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Tony, online opening only for residents with green residencias. In branch we took, passports, white paper Nie,s, our deeds(but I dont think he looked at them), our last Sabadell statement, all our direct debit info with their reference no,s, and a load of google translated questions ready to ask or answer any questions, and some cash to put in it. We opened a joint account and btw you must have a spanish sim. They wont accept UK numbers especially now that all banks want to send you security codes on certain transactions.

I have a hits mobile payg sim in a dual sim mobile along with my Tesco sim which we use all the time and I get 2 lots of codes or info txts, so guess bank cashier put same number down for both of us.Make sure you ask for the weferrent account because the cashier opened us a 360 account for savings, but we changed that. After opening we discovered we didnt have access to transfers(which appears to be an extra) but we returned and it was added later, so do that too at same time. It appears to be a signed for extra "contract". No fee but not automatically as standard. Our spanish is moy poco but we managed with a lot of a phone changing hands in google translate and I,m glad I wrote out the questions before we went into google translate, that was a terrific help. We returned 2 wks later for our debit cards.

I cant think of anything else, pretty much it. Hope it helps you to do it, we are satisfied with them

Regards

Pauline.

Thanks Pauline

I have a dual SIM phone with a Movistar Habla 6 (costs €5 euros per 6 months). I'll visit my local branch on my next visit.

Hi, I,ve written many replies on this subject and I,m not going to go into it at length, but we transferred from Sabadell to Cajamar bank last March as non residents with huge Sabadell fees and now pay no fees at all. Please do yourself a big favour go onto website and join their bank. Their onli...

...ne account "weferrent" cant be opened by a non resident online, who would need to open in branch, but a resident with green nie(residencia) apparantly can. Its an online account, no rules, no stipulations, and only cost is a fee if you do a face to face transaction of 7€ that month. We dont need any face to face transactions so suits us. Havent been in my Uk branch for over 10years so online with direct debits, atm use(also allows paying in money via atm) suits us perfectly. I recommend them wholeheartedly. I wish someone had recommended them to me before I had paid over 2000€ in fees over 10years with Sabadell and it took weeks of researching all Spanish bank accounts to find them.

Hi Pauline

Thanks so much for this invaluable info, I'm in the UK but aim to move over in July.  With all your research i thought you might be able to tell me the difference in these banks?

Someone else recommended Caixaltea to me (which looks like it's part of Cajamar group and offers 'pack wefferent' account)....do you know if that is the case?

A different person recommended Caixabank but it's website looks to be different from above.    ?

We're going to be in Costa Blanca north and I just was trying to be sure of atm availabilty etc before making the decision (mind you, your post has pretty much done that for me, I've a lot of respect for someone who puts in all the research and effort and helps guide the rest of us).

Thanks

Jill

Thanks again

Jill
