Car hire in light of Brexit

Out of interest - who do you rent from? A.

Not the person you asked but we just came back from Alicante and woudl in future try Record car hire.

They do a full option (no excess) for what looks like about half what we paid Sixt.

Limited choice of cars but who cares?

We use Do You Spain  (a broker) which advises re best deals available, therefore it's suggests all different firms. I've been doing this since 2015 with no problems until last year or so. Goldcar and Record Go both charged us for damage not caused by us - fortunately we have annual car insurance which covers us for excess on car hires in Europe. Varied reviews of these companies from others with same problem!! Cheers, Linda

Lara Cars always at Alicante! Great cars, simple efficient service and never had any excess charges. What you see quoted is what you pay and we pay in cash. No requirement for credit card details. 😎

Thanks everyone. I have used Recodgo before ( in Málaga airport) - the service was fine. Had to leave £1400 on Credit Card but there were no shenanigans when we returned the car.

The only issue we had was the really stressful exercise of actually collecting and returning the car at the airport - that was not fun.

Never hired from Alicante airport so, my questions would be:

Do Lara Cars have an office in or near the Alicante airport or do they have a website?

How stressful is the whole collection and return procedure at Alicante airport?

We found it quite easy.

The car hire offices are close to the exit from customs.

The cars are in a car park about 3 minutes walk from the offices up an escalator a short walk then a lift to the right car park floor for your pick-up.

Next time we'll do the Record Hire with the full cover no excess so we won't have to worry about the condition of the car on collection or return. 

Getting out of the car park is ok but you will need to know where you are going maybe check out google maps so you can see your way out of the airport to get on the motorway and go the right way. 

You'll be pleased to know that the tolls on the motorway stopped from January this year and they are slowly demolishing the old toll booths.
