Hello lovely people, don’t know if anyone can share their personal experience or any advice please. December 2023 we bought a car from a used car showroom/garage. We ensured that it was covered by a warranty which it is for 6 months. We paid for it via a credit card. After having it for 2 days we started having problems with it (won’t bore you with the details!). They came out and ‘sorted it’. We had continued issues and told the owner we weren’t happy. Thankfully they are British (from a language perspective) so we’re able to communicate well with them. We had to return to the UK new year and leave a spare set of keys with a neighbour. After some palaver the garage picked the car to take it back to work on it. We told them we must have it back for 24/2 when we return to Spain. No end of sending messages with no reply so the other day we’d had enough and called them. He said it’s being worked on and not to worry it’ll all be sorted for when we’re back. What we would like to know is…… if we get no where can we get the car back and take it to another mechanic near where we live, get the work done and send the bill to where we bought it from? I think not but hubby seems to think differently. TIA

The Spanish consumer protection law (Texto Refundido Ley de Consumidores y Usuarios) states that when you buy a used vehicle from a garage or a dealership the vendor should offer the buyer one year guarantee. These links may be helpful:

Have a look at the N332 website as it deals with stuff to do with driving in Spain.   It is for English speaking people and is run in conjunction with officers of the Guardia Civil.   On the website there is an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.
