Does anybody know about this Easter Monday's enormous trek, possibly Madrid's half population, through and in Alfons Park? Hundreds and hundreds of people with chairs, tables and picnics; even portaloos where erected! Is it every year?

Yes it’s every year. It’s what’s the Spanish do to celebrate Easter - picnic in the park
Don’t worry they’ll disappear in the next day or so, until they return for the annual August pilgrimage!

I think just few people from Madrid was there because in Madrid the vacations finish on Sunday. It is a big day for Guardamar, Elche, Almoradi, etc And really now there is less people than years ago. Imagine when people could access with cars there. Try to imagine all the road on this big park full with cars parked both sides and then trying to go out.
