I am wondering if anyone uses night storage heaters, and what they think of them. I am on 8 hour tariff which gives me cheaper electric for 8 hours of the day this is between 3pm & 11pm, my thinking is to have 1 or 2 running in the living room for 4 hours use that heat as well as the stored heat until I go to bed. I would also have 1 in the bedroom again running for 4 hours and then running that during the night to keep the bedroom warm I am not sure if this is feasible as I do not know how long these units take to charge or how long the hold their heat for. I would therefore be under the assumption that for every 1Kw of heating I use would cost about 9cents/hour plus I would need to increase my power supply which would cost an extra 42€/year/KW, my supply is only 3,45KW which at the moment is adequate and doesn't’t cause any problems. Any views or feedback would be much appreciated

We had them in the UK.  The house was lovely and warm at midday but cold in the evenings! Things may have improved since then.

Having had night storage heaters in the UK, I'm not a fan. You need to know what the weather's going to be in advance, and change the input/output accordingly. If the weather forecast is wrong, there isn't a quick solution. It's easy to end up too warm or too cool. I personally much prefer to throw some small logs on our fire to give a quick boost to the heating, or put a big one on and close the dampers to maintain the temperature where it is. Plus, of course, it's much more interesting to watch a log fire than it is to watch a storage heater!

Thanks Kimmy

We are also thinking about heating in Spain. Can you advise what brand your heaters are ?

We have storage heaters in our UK flat  and they are very crude.

Thanks

Thanks. I had a look at the link - they are very advanced compared to the heaters we have in the UK.

Can you programme them to cope with the 10pm-12 noon off peak period ?

Seeing that you have brought this subject up it has set off some thoughts. I have recently changed tariffs to the night rate one which gives me, in effect, 14 hrs at a lower rate. Economy 14 in UK terms.

So I could possibly take advantage of this by using the odd storage heater. I gave up on the wood burner, too much mess, too much work and I got tired of redecoating every spring.

My question therefore is, does anyone have one/some available that they have taken out that they would like to part with?

I would be quite happy to dismantle it, if needed.I have done a lot in the UK. It would depend of course where you live so please let me know on private messaging. Thanks.
