True and mistakes can be costly.

Might help if you said not just what your priorities are but also what's important for you to avoid.

That is so true my friend and needs tgought

I think renting in 2 or 3 areas may be the way forward

Horses for courses and depends on what you're looking for from a new life in Spain.

It's a nice enough area but nothing special and a bit remote so you'd better be planning on having a car.

FWIW I've met a number of people who have moved from the Hondons to be closer to facilities and amenities etc. but can't say I've met anyone who has moved the other way

Personally, if I was thinking of moving to the countryside, in that area, I would go for Pinoso. But rather difficult to recommend without knowing what your interests and hobbies are.

Rent first to avoid costly mistakes.

Cheers J

The area is very quiet. Not much around. I'd definitely rent first and at different times of year so you can see what it's like in the winter. Supposed to be quite cold then.

Hi there,

You say you are  British family no children, which makes me think there are possibly older members of the family, otherwise you would have just said couple.

If this is the case wherever you live you should take into account how close you are to the main hospital of the area and the Health Centre.

For example, a person who lived in Caudete, just north of Villena, but over the border into the province of Albacete, had cancer. After the op. he had to drive 216 kms. to and from the hospital in Albacete every day for 30 sessions of radiotherapy. Tough when you are feeling fragile.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, J

Our idea was to be 20-30 minutes inland but near a town or village

Hi, thank you it’s so difficult choosing an area

Not sure if you have spent anytime in the areas you are looking at. No matter how much online research we did NOTHING added as much as going and spending some time in each place you are thinking of. The places i was sure we would buy ended up not being the places we liked the most and ended up buying in. It might not be easy to do this, but i would highly recommend you try.

Great advice and will definitely do that. How much time did you spend in your chosen places?

I would say 2-3 days, in some places even less. A good source was locals, agents etc and you have to ask questions, seek their thoughts on good and bad. We weren't too interested in the peak summer times (July and August) but in ANY touristy spot most shared they disliked those peak times the most. Loud, late night bars, tourists. If you are looking at an urban property don't look in March and assume thats what its like "in season". As an example we orginally thought Denia, but after a 3 day visit and spending time looking at properties and talking we took it off the list. After 2 years we look back at Denia and some other places we thought 'were it' there are no regrets. Like others share, renting in a place can help, but that adds an element of being less settled as you know another move is coming up, and i think in most cases you get a 'sense' or 'feel' as to what clicks with you when you find 'your place'. What matters is different for each, so its hard to take another persons experience for your own. Start in 2 places, the town/city core and move out, and where you might live and move out. Walk, don't drive. It becomes clear where you are looking if something suggests that could be your new home.
