Hi Everyone,

Me, my husband and my little boy are looking at moving to the area and we would like some advice on a few things if anyone can help?

We are both remote workers so will be paid by a UK company but we will obviously need to apply for an EU residents card before Brexit. Obviously if this happens at the end of October we will probably struggle to get one in time. Would it still be possible or is there something else we could apply for that would ease the process. We know that if it's a no deal Brexit it will make things more complicated. What would our best course of action be in these circumstances?

On a brighter note, what areas do people recommend for a family with a young child? It would be nice to have baby groups near by and plenty of expats but also somewhere that still has plenty of Spanish charm and Spanish people so that we can integrate into the Spanish way of life.

To apply for residencia you need to be actually and demonstrably living in Spain.

Unfortunately even if you were to arrive tomorrow you'd have a sub zero chance of acquiring residency never mind by Oct 31st. but likely not even by Jan 31st 2020 which is when the (now almost guaranteed) next extension will run out - at it's soonest.

The system is that backlogged with chancers, many of whom will have been here living under the radar for years if not decades, desperately trying to get legit before Brexit that just getting an appointment is taking that long - and longer with some areas not doling them out at all - and unfortunately genuine applicants are caught up with them.

BTW in case you didn't know If you plan to work remotely then you will have to set yourself, or yourselves, up as autonomo or some other official business entity, you cannot just work and say nothing and there are potentially severe penalties for getting caught doing so.

Thank you for your response. This is why I thought I would come on here as it's the best way to get an honest answer from Someone who knows.

We definitely want to move over so what would your advice be?

Are there certain areas in Spain where the queues are shorter?

If not, how easy is it to get a visa if we come out without a deal? I was looking at the possibility of a Non Lucrative Visa possibly?

Yes I've looked into the working remotely side of things. I believe that if you are in the country for more than 183 days you have to work out between the two countries who you will pay tax to depending on your circumstances. If it's Spain (which I think it will be) you set up as an autonomo and file your tax return at the end of the tax year. We plan to use the services of a tax expert for this side of things though.
