Forgive me if I'm mistaken but based on your stated location I'm taking the liberty of assuming that you are resident in Spain, or in context and perhaps more pertinently, no longer UK resident.

If this is the case then technically any UK insurance you hold became null and void on the day you left UK intending to take up residence elsewhere.

It follows that your question is moot because as a non UK resident you are not entitled to be holding insurance provided by a UK insurer because residency is a near universal precondition for such cover.

While it's true that all motor insurance policies written in the EU must provide for minimum 3rd party cover throughout the union for their duration where terms and conditions have been abused insurers will be entitled to reclaim any such losses from the insured (you) personally, I don't think it needs pointing out that in case of an accident resulting in injury or death such losses could run into the hundreds of thousands!

If you doubt anything I say then call your insurer but be prepared to have your policy withdrawn on the spot!

I'll apologise in advance if I've got the wrong end of the stick regarding your residential status however I'll let the post stand as a point or information for others who may benefit from it.

cheers movingon,

I'm in UK but want to take about 5 months, maybe upto a max six months (less than 183 days) travelling from Alicante to Valencia taking our time and having a week or so in different places before making the commitment to move over permanently.

I realise when i do make the move that my uk insurance is void.

so i should still be classed as a uk resident i would have thought.

cheers.

Hi, John,

Yes, Saga used to provide an Annual Green Card.  However, when I had an accident they did not adhere to their T & Cs and I put them in Court and won.  They ignored the Court Order to pay me so I had to put the Bailiffs in which is good fun as then they had to pay the Bailiffs' fee, too.
