Spanish Medical Insurance

My partner and I signed up with ASSSA three years ago and have found their service good. They are in Javea, a couple of doors along from the Lancashire Bruja pub.

The best selling point for us was their pledge that once you've signed, annual premiums will never increase by more than the rate of inflation as a maximum. This year there was no increase at all. Some insurance companies make big hikes in the premium when you reach milestone ages like 65, 70, 80, etc.

We've found their service good but haven't drawn on it heavily so far (touch wood). You won't get cover for pre existing conditions, but that is pretty common with most if not all companies.

We are with Salus and are very happy with the service.

We used a guide issued by Citizens Advice Spain, which gave us a list of what we should ensure is included in the cover.

That was so helpful in comparing the different quotes.

We purchased through a broker (price was the same) and are useful contacts if we have any queries.

Can also phone/email Salus and be spiken with in English.

We live near Torrevieja so use Quiron hospital for GPs and specialists......can book directly with specialist if know what you need rather than being referred 

We have unluckily had to use Emergency department a few times and the care has been quick and excellent. (That's down to the hospital rather than the insurance provider)

Please do check what is covered....I spoke to someone who was having to pay for certain cancer scans as not included in their cover

Hello helpful people, 

We are trying to decide on a health insurance plan (me 64, husband 67) as we are moving full time to Spain next month. Does anyone have further suggestion, or experience with Sanitas?  We have quotes with ASSSA and Sanitas. How do these two compare, and also with Salus?

We too were told that ASSSA does not increase cost with age, but both ASSSA and Sanitas told us they do increase due to usage.
