House Insurance from Banks

My hubby & I have been unfortunate enough to insure our home and contents with our bank. We paid for the top premium and so, when the non stop heavy downpours came for almost all of April this year and we had rainwater coming in through our ceiling damaging the coving, the wall and our sofa, we put in a claim. Many visits to the bank, emails, visits to the branch in Guardamar and many telephone calls later, none of which would be dealt with in English despite being told from the bank prior to taking out the insurance that everything would be handled in English. We have now, 2 months later, had a letter telling us they have paid X amount to a contractor for having done repairs. Great, I hear you say, but no repairs have been done, the bank have never talked to us about this and so now we have insured with someone else. We had visits from 3 different people to look at the damage, then they all left and we then heard nothing at all from the bank. The people in Guardamar have telephoned them several times but that has still produced absolutely nothing. The, a couple of days ago, they had the nerve to take money from our account for renewal of tis useless policy for which we paid nearly 500 € for. Needless to say, I have been to the local branch and it has been refunded.
They would not even talk to me from day one as the insurance policy was done in hubby´s name only. So, when I went to Guardamar to the bank to see what, if anything, was going on after 3 days of being given 10 different phone numbers all of which reportedly spoke English but did not. I had to drive back to La Marina and get hubby to talk to them on the phone. I even had to take my mobile to Guardamar so that the person in the bank there could use it to call their Insurance branch. It had to be from the mobile registered to the account they said. My reaction - load of rubbish-The person on the other end of the line even said that they would not send anybody out as it was raining. We would have to wait for the rain to stop and then it would take a few days after that for someone to come to look at the damage.
The moral of this story is "DO NOT UNSURE WITH YOUR BANK" This experience has been very stressful and we still have no repairs done nor our sofa put right (this I have now cleaned myself). The wall and ceiling is not so fortunate. I cannot do those.
Think very carefully before insuring with anyone here. They will promise you the world to get your money but if you ever need them they will not deliver.
Before anyone says it, we do speak quite a bit of Spanish but not enough to deal with this type of thing
