Buying property in La Marina
We have found a property in La Marina we are hoping to buy, any tips on living in that area, we are hoping to retire early and move over here next year

Hi WendyHendry and welcome.
I answer this purely based on the fact that I have a home in La Marina and am probably biased.
I bought my villa back in 2012 which was a new build and had been on the market for a couple of years. It's been used by me and my family members regularly except for this year due to the obvious. I've just had it refurbished to get it how I want it now apart from some external bits etc.
As for the area, I personally really like it as it's fairly central for all the other areas I like to visit for a change. There are 3 main areas of activity on the urb with all sorts of bars and restaurants of different nationalities to choose from.
Yes there are a lot of Brits in this particular area but some people find this as a comfort whilst bedding in to Spain. There are is also all the amenities such as doctors and dentists. As time goes by there are a lot more predominantly Spanish areas that you can venture to like, Daya Vieja, Daya Nueva, Almoradi, Algorfa, Rojales, Formentera del Segura, Guadamar, San Fulgencio and Catral.
La Marina beaches are beautiful and are only 5 minutes up the road by car.
I hope you enjoy your new home and new adventure. I'm sure you will get more replies and good luck.
Regards
Glen

Thank you for taking the time to reply Glen, we are going for a second viewing tomorrow at La Marina, we think we could live there
Make sure you have good security i.e. alarm, strong doors, windows, keep gates closed and locked. La Marina has many burglaries. I am writing from experience.

Hi......I have heard of one or two at the most in the last 8 years! I'm not saying there hasn't been any more but just not heard of them.
Might be an idea to back up your claim.

There were a lot of burglaries when they were building at the bottom of the Urbanisation around 2002/04. But I haven't heard of more than a couple since we bought in 2011.
Nothing to worry about. Enjoy your new life.

Wendy, I am sure you already know about the rules changing at the end of the transition period for Brits looking to move to Spain. On the assumption that the transition period is not extended and the UK becomes a 'third country' on 1st January, then you will require much higher income threshold to be able to get residency (TIE) as a non-EU national than is currently required. I am not sure on your age, but if you are relying on an S1 for healthcare then that won't be available either.

We will be moving out permanently next year at aged 55, we really hope we can get a house and apply for residency before the end of the year, thank you for your helpful advice
Wendy/Hendry
There is a La Marina Forum I think it is called La Marina Gossip you will get a lot of info there and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for confirming my statement about the burglaries.
People should choose their words carefully before scaremongering people........or at least backup any claims with substantiation.
