Would I be in the wrong to laminate my residency card .
´We were told not to so we photocopied it and laminated the copy and we have had no trouble with it being accepted.

We've got the older style A4 paper residency certificates, which I laminated as soon as we got them. We've presented them several times over the years for various procedures and nobody has complained.
They have no legal validity as proof of identity, so it doesn't really matter what you do to them.
